Unfulfilled E-scapes
Statement
Painting has and always will be the foundation of my artistic practice; it is only through this experience that I am able to operate outside it. These macabre, neo-surrealist dreamscapes are always in the process of de-sublimating unfulfilled desires using Freudian psychoanalysis with a Post-Postmodern feminist humour. My paintings carry an unfinished quality despite their meticulous construction; they are a fluid rendering of disjointed metaphors. While I am influenced by traditional surrealist methods, there are expressionistic and emotive aspects in my work that play against an otherwise highly rationalized and methodical process. This allows for a constantly shifting, unstable dialogue to exist between the work and the viewer.
There are as many interpretations as there are brush strokes. We are all repressed in one way or another, and these paintings present a way for the viewer to see what they can let themselves see, through however way he or she is unfulfilled, through all the animals and feces, genitals and shit.
